OUR HISTORY

Hello Web

In 1995, Dave Johnson was hired by a local company to spread the word about how valuable it is to have an online presence. In the same week, Dave started working with the Watson Realty Corp. located in DeLand, Florida. Employed full-time as a bill collector for a local cable television company, he noticed something special about the Internet. It was growing fast.

First Steps (Baby Steps)

In the first year of this Internet venture, he helped start a web site for the Watson Realty office. It was a very plain web site, with very little appeal and A LOT of ongoing maintenance for the property information it displayed. Dave was hired to maintain each property page, by hand, for a small, undisclosed amount (because it is embarrassing). Something had to change! Realizing how much time it took for a simple page, consistent with several others, he looked for an alternative. The alternative meant utilizing programming from another company. This company created a simple property inventory system so basic it would be useless in the current market. But, back in 1997 it freed up enough time for Dave to start doing things properly. More specifically, the proper way would require utilizing a programming language that could do a lot with little code.

Finding a good language

While attempting to find a suitable solution to improve productivity, one programming language attempted was PERL. Perl is sometimes called the "Practical Extraction and Report Language" though it had been called a "Pathologically Eclectic Rubbish Lister" among other expansions as reported by O’RIELLY. But, soon after getting into certain functions, a superior alternative came along. Self-referentially short for PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor, an open source, server-side, HTML embedded scripting language was discovered, opening up a world of possibilities for dynamic uses on web sites.

Continuing Education

For the next few years, Dave would learn and try out all the new ideas he had about the usefulness of PHP. Soon, he discovered the list of useful programs would never stop growing. So, Dave made things easier by creating one neat package. This package would eventually become a program where clients or cooperating designers would be able to login and maintain various parts of their website with the click of a mouse.

New Approach

With this great tool for Internet production and productivity in his possession Dave’s workload was now more manageable. This meant he could spend more time giving back to the client. One major complaint heard from clients of other web design companies is, "my site just isn’t doing anything". Dave wanted to solve this problem, and in 2007, he met Casey Marshall of Orange Scissors Design Studio, a local design firm specializing in print media. Recognizing her design capabilities in print, Dave wanted to see how well her talent would translate to the Web. Her first attempt was a web site for Florida Hospital in Orange City. The web site was rich in good content combined with a very bold and clean design. Needless to say, Dave was impressed and knew combining Casey’s design skills along with his creative programming would nearly complete his clients’ Internet package.

Going to Market

Now that Dave has the capabilities of creating a graphical rich web site, along with the dynamics of programming for just about any need a client could need for keeping their site content current, the last question to answer is "How will Internet users find their sites?". Now, we need to find out a more about marketing these new sites. While researching all the various ways to improve search engine placement, optimization was one of the top priorities in the list gathered. This came as no problem since the Content Management System(CMS) created earlier, would take care of most of this automatically. Search Engine Optimization(SEO) seeks to increase a site’s visibility in search engines and enhance its value to visitors through topical page design, consistent HTML that is compatible for most common browsers. We have researched and found that the best SEO possibility, is to create clear and coherent content throughout the web site we are marketing. WHat this means is plenty of valuable information on all aspect of the organization we are marketing, to benefit users and search engines, and a pleasing format for users to appreciate. Along with many other part to Internet marketing we find clear format as most important, since keeping the user is more important than having them find you. Because we feel if you spend several thousand dollars marketing your site, but your site is not attractive to the average user, you will loose the attention of almost every user that stumbles across your site. BUt, if you have an attractive web site that most users can appreciate, your "Return of Investment" in marketing dollars will be higher.
